Our Story

Burtie & Max Adventures began with two lovable dogs, a muddy countryside lane and the idea that small everyday moments can become big stories when seen through a child’s eyes.

The series follows Burtie, a lively Parsons Terrier, and Max, a gentle Old English Sheepdog, as they discover friendship, curiosity, kindness and confidence through warm, funny countryside adventures.

Why Burtie & Max?

Children often connect deeply with animal characters because they feel safe, funny and familiar. Burtie and Max were created to give young readers two very different but equally lovable friends: one small, busy and curious; the other big, gentle and reassuring.

Together, they offer stories full of humour, heart and gentle emotional understanding.

The heart of the books

The world of Burtie & Max

A gentle countryside world

The Burtie & Max books are set in a bright, soft countryside world of winding lanes, stone walls, cottage gardens, wildflowers, puddles and open skies. It is a place where children can slow down, notice small things and enjoy the magic of simple discoveries.

The illustrations are designed to feel warm, expressive and storybook-like, with plenty of charm for children and enough detail for repeated reading.

For families, schools and libraries

Made for shared reading

Burtie & Max stories are written to be enjoyed aloud at home, in classrooms and during library story sessions. They are gentle enough for bedtime, playful enough for young children, and thoughtful enough to open simple conversations about feelings, confidence, kindness and friendship.

The adventure is just beginning

Burtie & Max: The Puddle Problem is the first Burtie & Max adventure, with more stories, activities and read-aloud moments planned for the series.
